Many may be unaware but Saffron originally comes from the stigma of the flower known as Crocus Sativas. Where saffron was first introduced remains obscure however, it is believed that it first originated in Greece. Today it is mostly cultivated in Iran and parts of India like Kashmir and exported throughout the world due to its medicinal and ayurvedic benefits.

Saffron is given different names in Ayurveda such as Varnya which means those commodities which helps in maintaining one’s original skin tone that may get impacted in the sun. It is also called Kantida which is similar to Varnya and means glowing skin. Other terms that are used include Rasayana which as the name suggests means getting the skin nourished to prevent ageing and Ropan which means healing the damaged skin.
